2 monastries at the Costa de la muerte

The monastry Monfero in the national park of the river of Eume, as well as the park itself is worth even a long travel.

Mikel, a guy I learned to know some days before, took me there, all the way from Vigo, about 160 km.

Later on we continued to another monastry, the Monasterio de Monfero. What a difference to the rughness of the coast, which shurely is entitled to be called Costa de la muerte.

Tours in the region of Vigo

On my 2nd. tour in the regon of Vigo I passed by a cafe with a view to the Islands Of Cies.

The red wine of the house, by the way, was served in cups, which at least could detract me from thinking of this fluid being sold as wine.

Unfortunately, at that time I had not yet heard of a famous, and really wonderful white wine made of Albariño grapes. A bottle of that is now hanging in a long line 20 feet under the Prince and waiting for the next guest to pass by.

This is a seccond sight towards the Islands of Cies, this time from the castel of Vigo (and against the light)...

Camarro

A short trip over land brought me to a little ancient fishervillage, whith now, of course, is filled with tourists, all af them spanish, by the way.

Many places you can sit at tables like this one, in exelent fishrestaurants and get a meal for comparatively little money. Its still warm, even after sunset. It would be nice, if Rainer as well could be here.

People here in Galica have met me explicitly warm, friendly and helpfull.

From La Coruña further on to the islands of Cies and Vigo

After having left la Coruña we headed for Vigo, but the winds were not too favourable and so we stayed overnight in the ancorage of Corme, a lovely looking little village on the way.

Next morning we continued to Las Islas Cies, which you will find some fotos of a bit further down on this page, and finally to Vigo, where Rainer already has left for Copenhagen. He has to work for the next 3 months, while I will sail on for 3 more weeks to get the boat sufficently far south so that we can sail on even in december.

My stay here in Vigo will last until the september 5th. and I already love this beautiful town with its old and ancient buildings and its seemingly quite metropolic people.

Our boat has turned into my little home for the next two weeks, and shadow is essential.

My lokal gay cafe early today, after a runningtour and a portion of muesli aboard, I have deserved a good cup of coffe.

La Coruña, situated between a beach and the Harbour

The central part of La Coruña is situated between a long beach with a beautiful promenade and the harbour. During our first day here the weather still was sunny, by now its heavily blowing and raining every now and then.

The good ship Esselar of Neuhaus

The Esselar of Neuhaus, Oste in Germany, demasted and on its way back home where a new mast is waiting for her arrival.

Staying in La Coruña because of hard winds from ahead

We decided to stay for several days here because of hard winds from ahead. La Coruña is a beautiful old city and really worth while a longer stay.

We had our first! meeting ( say drinking-night ) with another sailing couple aboard their originally 2-masted huge sailingbooat. For the time beeing she was, anyhow, only singlemasted after a collision with a fishingvessel. We still suffer of just headaches.

We are enjoying ourselves, having a wonderful time.

Evening at sea

from Cuxhaven to Alderney and further on to Spain

Dear All,

I have tried to upload pictures from our trip Cuxhaven (Kiel Canal) to Alderney (Channel Islands) and on to La Coruña (North-west Spain), but unfortunately the machine uses some protection which makes this impossible for me

Anyhow, we were very lucky, had often with winds from behind, so we have been able to reach our aim, Spain, long time before we had hoped. Some times hard winds, and cold, but always favourable.

We are extremely happy to be here after 10 days of continous sailing, only interrupted by a night and a day on the beautiful island Alderney.

The next days we hape to recover and, if at all, only do some shorter trips, but for once the winds seem to turn against us.

The first week

Dear All,
Rainer and I have, as you might know startet our trip.
Until further we have reached Cuxhaven near Hamburg.
Tomorrow Rainer will be back on the boat after a week of work, and we will try to rush westward just in time, we hope, before the wind will turn strong - and west.
Until Sunday we should have reached the north-west corner of Holland.
Then we will see.
I will put some fotos on thos site later on. I can't find out of my new camera yet. (-:
