Finally the Pacific Ocean! The last port is opening, salt- and freshwater is mixing and creating some turbulences and a strong current. And then the sight is free towards the west!The transit was done in two days. We were moored in the Gatun Lake in the jungle, where sometimes the apes shouted in waves, like a choir reaching a crescendo, awaking everybody on board. Our pilot was an extremely broadminded, friendly, unassuming and competent young man. Thanks to him and particularly thanks to our three linehandlers, who generously spent two days together with us on board our tiny spartanic boat. We feel relieved and lucky having reached that far.

All were concerned whether or not we would make it to the locks on the Pacific side in time. The outboard's 3 HP and a faint breeze is pushing our Prins at times to 5,5 knots.

Gott Kinder, was macht ihr fuer Geschichten! Zaehlen wir richtig, dass ihr zu sechst auf der kleinen Nussschale durch den Panamakanal gefahren seid? Da muss sicher immer einer auf dem neuen Klo sitzen, damit Platz fuer alle ist! Wir sitzen jedenfalls manchmal im Cafe Intime bei ein paar Hoegaarden und spinnen Seglergarn, und freuen uns auf all die Geschichten, die nach eurer Rueckkehr erzaehlt werden wollen. Apropos: Wann kommt ihr zurueck?

Hallo Rainer und Jochen,
dann seid ihr also doch durch den Kanal gesegelt? Ich dachte ihr müsstet transportiert werden. Wie schon ein Vorredner meinte: mit 6 Personen auf einem Speckhugger oder wie das nun geschrieben wird? Das ist mutig!
